Michael Thomas McCaul (born January 14, 1962 in Dallas , Texas ) is an American politician . Since 2005 he has represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Michael McCaul studied history at Trinity University in San Antonio until 1984 . After a subsequent law degree at Saint Mary's University , also in San Antonio, and his admission to the bar in 1987, he began to work in his new profession. From 1998 to 2002 he was the Assistant Attorney General in Texas.

Politically, McCaul joined the Republican Party . In the 2004 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the tenth constituency of Texas , where he succeeded Democrat Lloyd Doggett , who moved to the 25th district, on January 3, 2005 . Since he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. His latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2021. Michael McCaul is or was a member of the Ethics Committee , the Foreign Affairs Committee , the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Science, Space and Technology, and a total of seven sub-committees. He is also a member of four Congressional Caucuses .

He is married and has five children. The family lives privately in Austin . He is considered one of the richest congressmen.

After the attack on the Boston Marathon , McCaul accused President Barack Obama of failure and said the attack could possibly have been prevented. He criticized Obama's foreign policy several times. He said: "The president's policy signals a surrender to the threat posed by al-Qaeda ." McCaul also rejects a military strike against Syria .
