Elizabeth Ann Pannill "Lizzie" Fletcher (born February 13, 1975 in Houston , Texas , United States ) is an American politician . As a member of the Democratic Party , she has held the seventh seat of the state of Texas in the United States House of Representatives since January 3, 2019 . She was elected to this office on November 6, 2018 and was sworn in on January 3, 2019.

Life

Lizzie Fletcher was born on February 13, 1975 at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston , Texas , grew up in River Oaks and attended St. John's School .

She graduated from Kenyon College in Gambier , Ohio , where she became a member of the Phi Beta Kappa . She later attended the William & Mary Law School in Williamsburg , Virginia .

She moved back to Houston, where she worked for the Vinson & Elkins legal firm . She later worked at Ahmad, Zavitsanos, Anaipakos, Alavi & Mensing , where she supervised business processes and became a legal partner in 2015.

The writer Katherine Center is her older sister. She met her husband Scott when she was working with him on the same job.

Political career

Lizzie Fletcher led the Democratic primary election on March 6, 2018 to the election of the seventh seat of the state of Texas in the United States House of Representatives with 29.4 percent of the vote, followed by Laura Moser, who won 24.3 percent. Third place went to Jason Westin with 19.2 percent. Fletcher won the runoff election on May 22, 2018 with 68 percent of the vote.

She won the election for the seventh seat of the state of Texas in the United States House of Representatives on November 6, 2018 against John Culberson of the Republican Party with 52.5 percent of the vote.
