Eugene Worley

Francis Eugene Worley (born October 10, 1908 in Lone Wolf , Oklahoma , † December 17, 1974 in Naples , Florida ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1941 and 1950 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives ; then he became a federal judge .

Career

In 1922, Eugene Worley moved to Shamrock , Texas, where he attended public schools. He then studied at the Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College until 1928 . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Texas at Austin and his admission as a lawyer in 1935, he began to work in Shamrock in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1935 and 1940 he was a member of the Texas House of Representatives .

In the 1940 congressional election , Worley was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 18th constituency of Texas , where he succeeded John Marvin Jones on January 3, 1941 . After four re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on April 3, 1950 . This time was determined by the events of the Second World War and its consequences. Between December 1941 and August 1942, Worley took an active part in the war as an officer in the US Navy during his time as a congressman . From 1943 to 1945 he was chairman of an election committee.

Worley's resignation came after his appointment as federal judge in the Customs and Patent Court , where he succeeded Charles Sherrod Hatfield . In 1959 he became chairman of that court. He died in Naples on December 17, 1974.
