Kenneth E. "Ken" Bentsen Jr. (born June 3, 1959 in Houston , Texas ) is an American politician . Between 1995 and 2003 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ken Bentsen, nephew of longtime US Senator and later US Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen , attended Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts until 1977 . He then studied until 1982 at the University of St. Thomas in Houston. This was followed by studies at the American University in Washington, DC until 1985 . From 1983 to 1987, Bentsen served on the staff of Congressman Ronald D. Coleman . From 1985 to 1987 he was also on the staff of the Budget Committee of Congress. Otherwise he worked as an investment banker. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1994 congressional election , Bentsen was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the 25th  constituency of Texas, where he succeeded Michael A. Andrews on January 3, 1995 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2003 . The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan took place during this period .

In 2004, Bentsen decided not to run again. Instead, he unsuccessfully sought his party's nomination for the US Senate elections . Today Ken Bentsen heads the Washington office of the Securities Industries and Financial Markets Association . He is married and has two children.
