Shelley Sekula-Gibbs (born June 22, 1953 in Floresville , Wilson County , Texas ) is an American politician . In 2006 and 2007 she represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Shelley Gibbs studied chemistry at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio until 1975 . She then completed medicine at the University of Texas branch at Galveston until 1979 . Then she practiced as a doctor. Her specialty is skin diseases. She later taught medicine at Baylor College in Houston . At the same time, she embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 2002 and 2006 she served on the Houston City Council.

After the resignation of MP Tom DeLay , Shelley Sekula-Gibbs was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where she took up her new mandate on November 13, 2006 when the by-election was due for the 22nd seat in Texas . But since she was not elected for the next legislative term in Congress at the same time , but was subject to the Democrat Nick Lampson , she could only end the current term there until January 3, 2007.

Today she is a member of the Health Care Advisory Committee in Houston. She is married for the third time and has two grown children.
