Lloyd "Ted" Poe (born September 10, 1948 in Temple , Texas ) is an American Republican Party politician . From 2005 to 2019 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ted Poe studied until 1970 at the Abilene Christian University in political science . Between 1970 and 1976 he was a member of the United States Air Force Reserve . After studying law at the University of Houston and his admission to the bar in 1973, he began working in this profession. From 1973 to 1981 he was a district attorney in Harris County . He then worked as a judge in the same district until 2003.

In the 2004 election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington DC in the second congressional electoral district of Texas , where he succeeded Democrat Jim Turner on January 3, 2005 . Always re-elected, most recently in 2016, his mandate ran until January 3, 2019. He was a member of the Justice Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee as well as a total of six sub-committees. He essentially took the position of his party and was a member of the tea party movement related Tea Party Caucus and the conservative Republican Study Committee . He did not run again in the 2018 election . He is succeeded by Republican Dan Crenshaw .

Poe is married and lives privately in Humble .
