Jonas Martin Frost (born January 1, 1942 in Glendale , California ) is an American politician . Between 1979 and 2005 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Martin Frost attended RL Paschal High School in Fort Worth until 1960 and then studied at the University of Missouri in Columbia until 1964 . After studying law at Georgetown University in Washington, DC and being admitted to the bar in 1972, he began working in this profession. Between 1966 and 1972, Frost was a member of the US Army Reserve . In the following years he worked as a journalist in addition to his legal practice. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1976 and 2000 he was a delegate to all Democratic National Conventions with the exception of 1980 .

In the 1978 congressional election , Frost was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington in the 24th  constituency of Texas, where he succeeded Dale Milford on January 3, 1979 . After twelve re-elections, he was able to complete a total of 13 legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 2005 . The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan took place during this period . In 2002 he was one of 81 Democrats who voted for the Iraq war. Between 1999 and 2003 he headed the House Democratic Caucus . Since 2001 he has also been a member of the Rules of Procedure committee . In 2005, he was one of the nominees to chair the Democratic National Committee .

In 2004 Martin Frost was not re-elected. Today he works as a lawyer. His wife, Kathryn Frost , a former major general in the US Army, died in 2006. He is now remarried.
