Kathryn Frost

Kathryn Frost (born November 7, 1948 as Kathryn George in Dillon County , South Carolina , † August 18, 2006 in Fort Myer , Virginia ) was a major general in the US Army . She was the senior woman in the US Army during her service.

Life

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Arts in educational counseling from Wayne State University, Frost joined the US Army Women's Corps in 1974.

After serving in Berlin, she was a staff member for social affairs in the White House for a few years and later General Colin Powell's liaison officer to Congress when he was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1989 to 1993 . She was also a graduate of Army War College .

In 1996, Kathryn was promoted to Brigadier General and Deputy Commander of the US Army & Air Force Exchange Service (USAAFES). This facility looks after the restaurants and shopping centers in the US Army locations of the US Air Force . In the summer of 1998, she became Adjudant General of the US Army and was promoted to major general during that four year tenure.

Shortly before she became commander of USAAFES in August 2002, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In April 2005, she retired from military service. After her departure, she was offered the position of Administrative Director of the American Association of University Women . However, she had to decline this offer for health reasons.

Frost had been married to US Congressman Martin Frost from Texas since August 1998 .
