Jesse M. Combs

Jesse Martin Combs (born July 7, 1889 in Center , Shelby County , Texas , †  August 21, 1953 in Beaumont , Texas) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1953 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jesse Combs attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1912 the Southwest Texas State Teachers College . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1918, he began to work in his new profession in Kountze . He served as a District Judge in Hardin County in 1919 and 1920 . He then worked as a judge at various courts in Texas until 1943. From 1926 to 1940 he was the board chairman of the South Park Schools; between 1940 and 1944 he held the same position for Lamar College . Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1944 congressional election , Combs was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the second constituency of Texas , where he succeeded Martin Dies Jr. on January 3, 1945 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four terms in Congress by January 3, 1953 . During this time, the end of the Second World War and the beginning of the Cold War fell . In 1952, Jesse Combs declined to run again. He died on August 21, 1953 in Beaumont, where he was also buried.
