Lance Gooden (* 1. December 1982 ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . He has been a member of the House of Representatives for the Fifth District of Texas since January 2019 . He was previously a member of the Texas State House of Representatives .

Life

Lance Gooden grew up in Terrell, Texas and attended school there. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in finance and public administration. Most recently he worked as a consultant for risk management and insurance for companies in the energy sector.

Gooden has been married since 2016. The couple live in Terrell and have a son and daughter.

politics

In 2010, Gooden was elected to the Texas House of Representatives for the fourth district. He took office in January 2011 and was confirmed in office for a further two years in 2012. In the following elections in 2014, he was defeated in the Republican primary to Stuart Spitzer and left office in January 2015. In the next election in 2016, Gooden ran again against Spitzer in the same district. He was able to win the primaries as well as the general election and held the mandate from January 2017 to January 2019. For the last term in office, Gooden served on the insurance and education committees.

In the 2018 US House of Representatives elections , Goorden ran for the fifth district. He was the most successful of 6 candidates in the Republican primary with 17.5% of the vote and was confirmed in the runoff election. In the general election he won 62.3% of the vote against the Democratic candidate who received 37.5%. He joined his client on January 3, 2019.
