J. J. Pickle

James Jarrell "J. J. “Pickle (born October 11, 1913 in Big Spring , Texas , †  June 18, 2005 in Austin , Texas) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1995 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

JJ Pickle attended the public schools in his home country and then studied at the University of Texas until 1938 . Between 1938 and 1941 he was a director in the National Youth Administration . He then served in the US Navy during World War II . He then worked in the broadcasting industry. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1957 and 1960 he was a member of the Democratic Council. From 1961 to 1963 he was a member of the Texas State Employment Commission.

After the resignation of MP Homer Thornberry , Pickle was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the tenth seat in Texas , where he took up his new mandate on December 21, 1963. After 15 re-elections, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1995 . During this time, among other things, the end of the civil rights movement , the Vietnam War and the Watergate affair fell . In 1994 he decided not to run again. He died in Austin on June 18, 2005.
