Olin Wellborn

Olin Wellborn (born June 18, 1843 in Cumming , Georgia , †  December 6, 1921 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1879 and 1887 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives ; later he became a federal judge .

Career

Olin Wellborn attended the public schools in his home country as well as Emory College . He then studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . During the civil war he served in the Confederation Army , where he made it to the rank of captain. After the war, he settled in Atlanta . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1866, he began to work there in his new profession. In 1871 he moved his residence and law firm to Dallas , Texas. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1878 Wellborn was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Texas , where he succeeded James W. Throckmorton on March 4, 1879 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1887 . Since 1883 he represented the sixth district of his state as the successor to Christopher C. Upson . Between 1883 and 1887 Wellborn was chairman of the Indian committee. In 1886 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

A year later, Wellborn moved to San Diego , California, where he practiced as a lawyer. Since 1893 he lived in Los Angeles. Between 1895 and 1915 he was a judge in the federal district court for the southern district of California. After that, he retired. He died in Los Angeles on December 6, 1921.
