Asa Hoxie Willie (born October 11, 1829 in Washington , Georgia , †  March 16, 1899 in Galveston , Texas ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Asa Willie received a good private education. In 1846 he came to Brenham , Texas. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1848, he began to work there in his new profession. Between 1852 and 1854 he was a district attorney in the Texas Third Judicial District. During the Civil War , Willie served as a major in the Confederation Army . In 1866 he moved to Galveston, and in 1867 he was appointed as a judge in the Texas Supreme Court. However, he had to give up this post under pressure from the military commander of the Union forces.

Politically, Willie was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1872 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the then newly established sixth constituency of Texas , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1873. Since he renounced another candidacy in 1874, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1875 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives ended, Asa Willie returned to practice as a lawyer. Between 1882 and 1888 he was presiding judge of the Supreme Court of Texas . Then he worked again as a lawyer. He died in Galveston on March 16, 1899.
