Eugene Black (born July 2, 1879 in Blossom , Lamar County , Texas , †  May 22, 1975 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1915 and 1929 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Eugene Black attended public schools in his homeland. From 1898 to 1900 he taught himself as a teacher in Lamar County. He was also employed by the post office in Blossom. After a subsequent law degree at Cumberland University in Lebanon ( Tennessee ) and his admission as a lawyer in 1905, he began to work in Clarksville in this profession. He also worked in retail.

Politically, Black joined the Democratic Party . In the 1914 congressional elections he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the first constituency of Texas, where he succeeded Horace Worth Vaughan on March 4, 1915 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1929 . World War I fell during his time in Congress . In addition, the 18th and 19th amendments to the Constitution were ratified in 1919 and 1920 .

In 1928 Eugene Black was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, he worked from 1929 to 1966 for the United States Board of Tax Appeals , based in the federal capital Washington. He died there on May 22, 1975 at the age of 95.
