Eddie Bernice Johnson (born December 3, 1935 in Waco , Texas ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . She has represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives since 1993 .

Career

Eddie Johnson attended AJ Moore High School in Waco until 1952 . Then she studied until 1955 at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana , where she was trained as a nurse . She later studied at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and Southern Methodist University in Dallas . She then worked as a senior psychotherapist at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Dallas. At the same time, Johnson began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1972 and 1977 she was a member of the Texas House of Representatives . From 1977 to 1981 she worked for the US Department of Health ; between 1986 and 1972 she was a member of the State Senate .

In the 1992 congressional elections , Eddie Johnson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the then newly created 30th  constituency of Texas , where she took up her new mandate on January 3, 1993. Since she was re-elected in all subsequent elections, she can continue to exercise her mandate today. Its latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2021. This was the period during which the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell . She is or was a member of the Committee for Science and Technology ( Ranking Member ), the Transport Committee and five sub-committees. She is also a member of several Congressional Caucuses . Between 2001 and 2003 she directed the Congressional Black Caucus .

Positions

Eddie Johnson denies the Armenian genocide . As part of Dean Cain's documentary Architects of Denial (2017) , Johnson was asked if she denied that the Armenian genocide happened, to which she replied, "I deny it."
