Randolph Blake Farenthold (born December 12, 1961 in Corpus Christi , Texas ) is an American politician . From 2011 until his resignation in 2018, he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Family, education and work

Blake Farenthold studied entertainment science at the University of Texas at Austin until 1985 with a focus on radio, television and film. After completing a law degree at St. Mary's University in San Antonio and his admission to the bar in 1989, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

Blake Farenthold is married and has two daughters. The family lives privately in Corpus Christi.

Political career

In the 2010 election , Farenthold was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 27th Congressional constituency of Texas , where he succeeded Solomon P. Ortiz on January 3, 2011 . Previously, he had surprisingly defeated the long-time democratic incumbent by a margin of 799 votes. He was re-elected in all subsequent elections through 2016 .

In Congress , he was a member of the Homeland Security Committee in the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform , the Legal Committee and the Transport and Infrastructure Committee . He also sat on seven sub-committees. He also belonged to the the tea party movement related Tea Party Caucus on.

Controversy

In 2014, a former employee sued Farenthold for gender-based discrimination; they reached an out-of-court settlement. In December 2017, there were reports that Farenthold had paid $ 84,000 in taxpayer compensation. Farenthold then announced that he would not seek re- election and that he would leave Congress at the end of his current mandate in early 2019. On April 6, 2018, Fahrentold resigned from his mandate with immediate effect. Contrary to his announcement and a request by the investigative committee, he did not repay the $ 84,000 and stated that he did not intend to. Shortly thereafter, he accepted a position as a lobbyist for a state-run port in Matagorda Bay, Texas .
