Morgan G. Sanders

Morgan Gurley Sanders (born July 14, 1878 with Ben Wheeler , Van Zandt County , Texas , †  January 7, 1956 in Corsicana , Texas) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1939 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Morgan Sanders attended the public schools in his home country and then the Alamo Institute . After that he worked as a teacher for three years. At the same time he was the owner and editor of a weekly newspaper. After studying law at the University of Texas at Austin and his admission to the bar in 1901, he began working in this profession in Canton . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1902 and 1906 he was a member of the Texas House of Representatives. From 1910 to 1914 he served as the district attorney in Van Zandt County. He then served in the Texas Seventh District Attorney in 1915 and 1916. He then practiced again as a private lawyer. Sanders has also been a delegate to numerous regional Democratic conventions in Texas.

In the congressional election of 1920 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Texas , where he succeeded James Young on March 4, 1921 . After eight re-elections, he was able to complete nine legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1939 . Since 1933, most of the federal government's New Deal laws have been passed there under President Franklin D. Roosevelt . In 1938, Sanders was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, he worked as a lawyer again. He died on January 7, 1956 in Corsicana and was buried in Canton.
