Max A. Sandlin (born September 29, 1952 in Texarkana , Arkansas ) is an American politician . Between 1997 and 2005 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Max Sandlin attended Atlanta High School in Texas. He then studied until 1975 at Baylor University in Waco . After completing a law degree at the same university and being admitted to the bar in 1978, he began to work as a lawyer. Between 1986 and 1996 he served as a judge in various Texas courts. He then practiced as a private lawyer. He also worked in banking and the energy sector.

Politically, Sandlin joined the Democratic Party . In the 1996 congressional election , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Texas , where he succeeded Jim Chapman on January 3, 1997 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2005 . There he was temporarily a member of the Committee of Ways and Means , the Finance Committee and the Transport and Infrastructure Committee . During his time as a member of parliament, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan occurred . In 2004 he was defeated by the Republican Louie Gohmert .

Max Sandlin is with the former congressman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin of South Dakota married. He has five children and one grandchild.
