Robert Christopher "Chris" Bell (born November 23, 1959 in Abilene , Texas ) is an American politician . Between 2003 and 2005 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Chris Bell studied journalism at the University of Texas at Austin until 1982 . He then worked for some time as a television and radio journalist. After studying law at the South Texas College of Law in Houston and his admission to the bar, he began working in this profession in 1992. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1997 and 2001 he was a member of the Houston City Council.

In the 2002 congressional election , Bell was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 25th  constituency of Texas , where he succeeded Ken Bentsen on January 3, 2003 . Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 2004, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until January 3, 2005 . This was shaped by the events of the Iraq war .

In 2006 Bell ran for the office of governor of Texas, but was defeated by the Republican incumbent Rick Perry with 30:39 percent of the vote. Two years later, a candidate for the Texas Senate failed . Today he is practicing as a lawyer again.
