The Dendrological Garden in Przelewice [pʃɛlɛ΄vitsɛ] (German Prillwitz ) is an arboretum in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland .

history

On May 26, 1834, Auguste von Prillwitz died in Berlin at the age of 33, presumably of tuberculosis. She was transferred to Prillwitz and buried there in the church on July 1, 1834. A mausoleum was built in the park in 1835 to house the coffins of Auguste von Prillwitz and her two children who died young. Prince August of Prussia died on July 19, 1843 ; According to his father's will, the estate was taken over by his son of the same name, August.

Under Caspar Lachmann and his heirs, the garden regained its naturalistic style in 1879–1922 and a terrace was built behind the castle. 1922–1924 Conrad von Borsig successfully tried to obtain the right to buy the estate and finally acquired Prillwitz without the Luisenhof (now Lucin) farm, where 34 farms for resettlers were established. In 1933, Conrad von Borsig had the park redesigned according to his wishes. Garden architect Heydenreich took on this task from the horticultural company Späth . The park was enlarged to 22 hectares. The redesign of the park was completed in 1938. At the 1938 conference of the German Dendrological Society in Stettin, Conrad von Borsig gave a lecture about his new park (yearbook of the DDG No. 51). Conrad von Borsig was shot by Soviet soldiers on February 13, 1945 and buried in the park near the shepherd's hut. Today a large stone under the larch symbolizes his resting place.

In 1948 the People's Council of the Voivodeship took over the manor house, the outbuildings and the park; In the manor house, service apartments, storage rooms and a common room will be created. Henryk Chylarecki from the Forestry Faculty of the University of Poznan inventoried the park in 1951 as part of his master's thesis under the direction of Konstanty Stecki; the park was registered as a dendrological- pomological garden. The gardeners Adam Brzęczyk and J. Winter looked after him for the next nine years. In 1955 a science council of the arboretum in Przelewice was established under the direction of Stefan Białobok; the council was active until 1965.

In 1960 Major Marian Billik became head of the Dendrological Garden. Until 1975 he bred useful and ornamental birds as well as fish in the park, he enlarged the park by 8 ha for the future tree nursery. In 1965 the Agricultural Academy in Stettin transferred the scientific management of the arboretum to S. Kownas.

In 1971 the inhabitants had to be relocated due to the deteriorating condition of the manor house; With funds from the Monument Preservation Office, an apartment block with offices was built in the park.

In 1975 the lecturer Henryck Chylarecki became the scientific director of the arboretum and began to work on the collection. He stated the number of the collection as 1200 tree and shrub species. The technical supervision of the park was the responsibility of the LPG forester H. Gosek; a reservoir was created in the park. In 1976 the dendrological garden was entered in the monument register under number 791 and the manor house under number 792. In 1977 forest scientist Zbigniew Kozak took over the technical supervision of the arboretum. By 1980 the original aqueduct was restored in the park, garden paths were renewed and a greenhouse was installed in the nursery in Kłodzino. In 1982 Łucja Swiłło became the technical director of the arboretum, who carried out a reassessment of the arboretum and managed the nursery. In 1983 the first repair work in the manor house, especially on the foundation walls and the roof, was interrupted due to lack of funds.

In 1987 Henryk Chylarecki worked on the project of a re-evaluation of the arboretum on behalf of the Provincial Office in Szczecin.

In 1992, as part of the dissolution of the communist farms, the state treasury took over the dendrological garden, including the manor house and farm buildings.

In 1993 the state authorities handed over the garden to the Przelewice commune; Łucja Swiłło became director. She has been in charge of the collection as deputy director since 1996. In 2003 Katazyrna Misiak took over the care of the garden.

In 1996 the Dendrological Garden became an independent business under Maria Jolanta Syczewska, who still manages it today. In 2000, a science education center was built in the garden under the direction of Katzyrna Misiak. The garden won the gold medal of the Ministry of Culture for “the best managed monument in Poland”. From 2004 to 2006 the manor house was restored and handed over to use as a botanical research and development center with 15 hectares of new tree nurseries, greenhouse and orangery in May 2006.

Trees and plants

At the BioCISE conference "Access to Biological Collection Information in Poland - a European Perspective" in 1999, Łucja Swiłło stated that the tree population was 200 taxa .
