Life

He was the son of Albert Borsig and the grandson of August Borsig . His brothers were Ernst and Arnold . Borsig attended the Luisengymnasium in Berlin-Moabit . He then did a commercial apprenticeship. This included both banking and export business. Stations were Bremen , London and Moscow . When he came of age in 1894, like his brothers, he became co-owner and commercial manager of the Borsig works. In addition, Borsig was a member of numerous supervisory boards. He was also chairman of the employers' association of the German professional associations and the German-Argentinian central association. He was also a member of the Central Committee of the Reichsbank . On January 27, 1909, he and his brother Ernst were raised to the Prussian hereditary nobility.

In 1931, the Borsig-Werke had to file for bankruptcy and became the property of the Rheinische Metallwaren- und Maschinenfabrik . In March 1933, Rheinmetall-Borsig was founded as a new company. Conrad von Borsig became deputy chairman of this company. He was also a co-owner of the o. H.-G. Borsig in Berlin and the Borsig-Lokomotiv-Werke GmbH. The latter were a joint venture with AEG . In the time of National Socialism, the works took off again.

Borsig had been living in Pomerania since 1933 on his Prillwitz estate, which he acquired between 1922 and 1924 . Borsig was a member of the German Dendrological Society . He devoted himself entirely to the English-style park , which he enlarged to 30 hectares. In addition, Borsig managed a 370 hectare forest enterprise. From 1933 to 1938 he redesigned the park into a dendrological garden . At the end of the war, Borsig was shot by Soviet soldiers in front of his house. His grave is in the dendrological garden he created. In 1945 it became the property of the Polish state, but was not taken care of until 1975. Both the garden and the manor house have been a listed building since 1976. In 2006 the now dilapidated manor house was restored with state-Polish and EU funds. The “Przelewice Dendrological Garden” is now a popular tourist destination.
