Arnold August Paul Borsig (born June 23, 1867 in Berlin ; † April 1, 1897 in Biskupitz-Borsigwerk , district of Zabrze , province of Silesia ) was a major German industrialist and, together with his brothers Ernst Borsig and Conrad von Borsig, ran the 1836 from their grandfather August Borsig founded Borsig-Werke in Berlin.

Life

Arnold August Paul Borsig was born on June 23, 1867 as the first of three sons of August Julius Albert Borsig (1829–1878). When his father died, he was just 11 years old. He later studied mining and metallurgy in Bonn, Berlin and Freiberg. In 1887 he became a member of the Corps Palatia Bonn . Internships in Silesian coal mines and in ore mining followed. After completing his studies, Arnold Borsig turned primarily to mining practice in order to get to know the details of underground operations in detail.

In 1893 he moved to Upper Silesia to work in the Borsig works there. He wanted to get to know people and circumstances better in his own company. In the course of this activity he began to reorganize the mining operations. He also introduced changes that had become necessary in many cases in the organization of the iron and steel works, brought in new staff for technical and commercial management and sent his engineers on teaching trips.

On April 23, 1894, the brothers Arnold, Ernst and Conrad Borsig began managing the Borsig works. After Albert Borsig's death, an estate board of trustees led by the Riem Judicial Council took over the management of the business until the sons were of legal age or had completed their training.

Arnold Borsig also took over the head of the Borsigwerk administration on April 23, 1894 and began with great energy and prudence a thoroughgoing improvement and expansion, first of the mining operations and then, in some cases, the creation of new plants in the iron and steel works.

On April 1, 1897, Arnold Borsig and five officials died in a mine accident with a gas explosion in the Hedwigswunsch mine. He was transferred to Berlin and buried next to his father in the cemetery in Groß Behnitz on April 5, 1897 .
