Pete P. Gallego (born December 2, 1961 in Alpine , Texas ) is an American politician . From 2013 to 2015 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Pete Gallego attended Sul Ross State University in his hometown of Alpine until 1982 . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Texas at Austin and his admission to the bar in 1985, he began to work in this profession. Between 1986 and 1989 he worked as Assistant Attorney General in the office of the Attorney General of Texas. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1991 and 2012 he was a member of the Texas House of Representatives .

In the 2012 congressional election , Gallego was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 23rd  constituency of Texas , where he succeeded Republican Quico Canseco , whom he defeated in the election, on January 3, 2013 . The latter initially refused to recognize the result and later spoke of electoral fraud. Gallego saw the official election result with 50 percent of the vote, clearly ahead of Canseco, who got 46 percent of the vote. The difference was about 9200 votes. Two years later, Gallego ran for re-election, but was defeated by Republican Will Hurd .

Pete Gallego is married and lives privately in his hometown Alpine.
