Gregory H. "Greg" Laughlin (born January 21, 1942 in Bay City , Texas ) is an American politician . Between 1989 and 1997 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Greg Laughlin attended West Columbia High School until 1960 and then studied at Texas A&M University until 1964 . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Texas and his admission to the bar in 1967, he began to work in this profession. Between 1964 and 1967 and again from 1970 to 1988 he was a member of the US Army Reserve . From 1970 to 1974 he served as the assistant prosecutor in Harris County . Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party at the time . In 1986 he ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives.

In the 1988 congressional elections , Laughlin was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 14th  constituency of Texas , where he succeeded Mac Sweeney on January 3, 1989 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 1997 . In 1995 he moved to the Republican Party , which had offered him a seat on the influential Committee on Ways and Means . In 1996 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his new party.

Greg Laughlin returned to practice as an attorney since the end of his tenure in the US House of Representatives. In 2004 he was an observer in the presidential elections in Cameroon , which he classified as proper.
