Nicolas Valentino "Nick" Lampson (born February 14, 1945 in Beaumont , Texas ) is an American politician . Between 1997 and 2005 and again from 2007 to 2009 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Nick Lampson attended his home public schools including South Park High School , where he graduated in 1964. He then studied at Lamar University in his hometown of Beaumont until 1971 . In the following years he worked as a teacher. Between 1977 and 1995 he was a real estate tax collector in Jefferson County . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1996 congressional election , Lampson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the ninth constituency of Texas , where he succeeded Republican Steve Stockman on January 3, 1997 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2005 . The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan took place during this period . In 2004 it was not confirmed.

Two years later, in 2006, Lampson was re-elected to Congress in the 22nd district of his state, where he could serve another term between January 3, 2007 and January 3, 2009. In 2008 he was not re-elected. In 2012 he ran unsuccessfully for his return to Congress in the reorganized 14th District of Texas. He lost to Randy Weber .
