James H. Jones

James Henry Jones (born September 13, 1830 in Shelby County , Alabama , †  March 22, 1904 in Henderson , Texas ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1887 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

While still a child, James Jones came to Talladega County with his parents , where he later attended public schools. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1851, he began to work in Henderson in this profession. During the Civil War , Jones served in the Confederation Army , where he rose to colonel. After the war he practiced as a lawyer again. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1882 , Jones was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of Texas , where he succeeded Olin Wellborn on March 4, 1883 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1887 . In 1886 he renounced another candidacy. After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Jones worked again as a lawyer in Henderson, where he died on March 22, 1904.
