Lera Millard Thomas
Lera Millard Thomas (born August 3, 1900 in Nacogdoches , Texas , † July 23, 1993 ibid) was an American politician . In 1966 and 1967 she represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Lera Millard, her maiden name, attended Brenau College in Gainesville ( Georgia ) and then studied at the University of Alabama . She became a member of the League of Women Voters in Houston and married Congressman Albert Thomas . After his death, she was elected as his successor in Congress as a candidate for the Democratic Party . Between March 26, 1966 and January 3, 1967, it ended the current legislative period in the US House of Representatives. This was overshadowed by the events of the Vietnam War .
After retiring from Washington, DC , Lera worked in 1968 as a correspondent for the Houston Chronicle newspaper from Vietnam . She died on July 23, 1993 in Nacogdoches.
