Nacogdoches [ ˌnækəˈdoʊtʃɨs ] is the district capital and county seat of Nacogdoches County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located on Highways 7, 21, 59 and 259 in east Texas, is about 100 kilometers from Louisiana and has a total area of 65.5 km², of which 0.2 km² is water.

The National Park Service lists a total of 23 buildings and sites in the National Register of Historic Places for Nacogdoches (as of January 5, 2019), including the Old Nacogdoches University Building .

According to the census in 2000 , 29,914 people lived here in 11,220 households and 5,935 families. The population density was 457.8 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 65.98% White, 25.06% African American, 0.34% Native American, 1.13% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, and 5.84% other ethnic groups. About 1.55% were mixed race and 10.82% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 11,220 households, 25.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 35.7% of these were married couples living together. 13.7% were single mothers and 47.1% were non-families. 33.5% of all households were single households and 9.6% had people living there who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 3.04.
20.2% of the population were under 18 years old, 30.9% 18 to 24, 22.3% 25 to 44, 15.4% 45 to 64, and 11.1% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 24 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 87.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 84.2 men.
The median income for a household in the 22,700 USD , and the median income for a family 37,020 USD. Males had a median income of $ 28,933 versus females of $ 22,577. The per capita income was $ 14,546. 32.3% of the population and 20.9% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 38.4% were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 13.3% were 65 or older.
