Medical design

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Medical design is a specialization in industrial design that deals with the design of products and processes in the health sector.

specialization

Since a close cooperation with doctors or medical staff, as well as an explicit specialist knowledge of the laws, norms, safety restrictions and other framework conditions is a prerequisite for professional design in the medical field, designers and design offices have partially or exclusively concentrated on medical design.

conditions

The aim of medical design is to provide the best possible support for the users of the products, i.e. doctors, clinic and practice staff as well as for the patients. On the one hand, there are improvements in the functionality and usability of products on the user side, which make the handling and the flow of processes smoother and safer. The consideration of hygiene already has a high priority in the planning.

extension

Originally, the term medical design mainly referred to medical technology , i.e. to devices, products and consumables from the medical environment of the clinic and doctor's office or laboratory. In the meantime, there has been an expansion that also includes health products and processes that are used directly or exclusively by patients or users. Due to the demographic change in western societies, for example, ambient assisted living (AAL), i.e. technically supported basic medical care in the home environment, has come into focus.
