University of South Dakota
The University of South Dakota (also known as USD ) is a state university in Vermillion in the southeastern US state of South Dakota . With 8,641 students (2005) it is the second largest university in South Dakota after South Dakota State University . The university has the only medical and law faculty in the state.
history
The university was founded in 1862 by the Dakota Territory legislature . Studies began in 1882. The current president is James W. Abbott.
Sports
The USD sports team are the Coyotes . The university is a member of the Summit League .
