United States Congress Joint Committee on Printing

The Joint Committee on Printing is a joint committee of the US Congress . Half of the members of the Senate and half of the House of Representatives sit in it . It oversees the work of the Government Printing Office , which is responsible for all publications by the federal government in print and in databases . This includes the various forms of the Law Gazette of Laws and Regulations, the Legislative Process Records in the Congressional Record , the Official Federal Register, and United States passports and some subsidiary publications. The legal basis of the activity is Title 44 of the United States Code .

Until it was merged by the Legislative Reorganization Act of 1946, there were separate Senate and House committees for this task.

Each chamber of Congress has five members on the committee. These are the chairman and four members of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration and the chairman and four members of the House Committee on House Administration . The presidency rotates every two years between a senator and a congressman.
