Gregg Harper (born June 1, 1956 in Jackson , Mississippi ) is an American politician ( Republican Party ). Between 2009 and 2019 he represented the state of Mississippi in the US House of Representatives in Washington .

Life

After finishing his schooling in Pearl , Harper first attended Mississippi College in Clinton , where he graduated in chemistry in 1978 ; 1981 followed the law exam at the Law School of the University of Mississippi . Subsequently he worked as a freelance lawyer; he later became a prosecutor in Brandon and Richland .

In 2000, Harper took over the Republican presidency of Rankin County , which he held until 2008. He attended the Republican National Convention that same year , where George W. Bush was nominated as a presidential candidate. After the presidential election , he was sent as an observer to his party for the controversial vote recount in Florida .

On April 1, 2008, Harper won the Republican primary for the congressional mandate of the no longer-running Chip Pickering . In the November election of the same year, he prevailed against the Democrat Joel Gill with 63 percent of the vote . Since January 3, 2009 he has represented the 3rd congressional electoral district in the House of Representatives, which includes parts of his hometown Jackson as well as Natchez and Meridian . He later headed the Joint Committee on Printing . Before that, he headed the United States Congress Joint Committee on the Library between 2013 and 2015 . He has also served on the Energy and Trade Committee, the Ethics Committee, and the Committee on House Administration .

In 2016, he was reassigned to office and was a member of the 115th Congress of the United States , which met on January 3, 2017 . In the 2018 congressional election , he did not run again and thus left the House of Representatives on January 3, 2019.
