Bill G. Lowrey

Bill Green Lowrey (born May 25, 1862 in Kossuth , Alcorn County , Mississippi , † September 2, 1947 in Olive Branch , Mississippi) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1929 he represented the second constituency of the state of Mississippi in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Bill Lowrey attended his home public schools and the Blue Mountain Academy . He then studied at Mississippi College in Clinton until 1887 . In 1888 and 1889, Lowrey finished his education with a degree at Tulane University in New Orleans . As a result, he was active in the school service. From 1889 to 1898 he taught at Blue Mountain College , from 1898 to 1911 he headed this school. Between 1911 and 1916, was president of Lowrey Amarillo Military Academy in Amarillo ( Texas ). Until 1921 he held other leading positions in the school service.

Politically, Lowrey was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1920 he was elected as their candidate in the US House of Representatives, where he replaced Hubert D. Stephens on March 4, 1921 . After he was confirmed in the following congressional elections, he was able to complete a total of four legislative periods in Congress by March 3, 1929 . In 1928 he applied unsuccessfully for the re-nomination of his party. Between 1929 and 1935 Lowrey was employed with the administration of the federal court in northern Mississippi. After that, he retired.
