Hermann Mellage (born December 10, 1906 in Münster , † unknown) was a German football player . The goalkeeper won the German championship with FC Schalke 04 in 1934 and 1935 .

Career

Mellage came from SC Münster 08 in 1929 , for whom he had guarded the goal since he was 14 years old. When a team played in the Glückauf-Kampfbahn , Schalke noticed him. He succeeded August Sobotka as number one of the royal blues. Already in the championship final in 1933 , which the Gelsenkirchen team lost 3-0 to Fortuna Düsseldorf , Mellage was between the posts; in the two following seasons, in which the Schalke team won their first two German championship titles, he proved to be the constant support of the " Schalke Kreisel ". Also in the lost DFB Cup finals in 1935 and 1936 he was in the goal of the "Knappen". The goalkeeper "with his long arms and his powerfully gripping hands" was characterized by the fact that he radiated "a pleasant calm in the defensive association".

Mellage accepted a new job in Wuppertal in January 1937 and then switched to SSV Wuppertal . The 30-year-old was replaced by eight years younger Hans Klodt as number one.
