Joseph H. Beeman

Joseph Henry Beeman (born November 17, 1833 in Gatesville , Gates County , North Carolina , † July 31, 1909 in Lena , Mississippi ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the fourth constituency of the state of Mississippi in the US House of Representatives .

Life

In 1847, Joseph Beeman came to Morgan County , Alabama with his parents . Two years later the family moved to Mississippi. Young Joseph received an academic education and then became a teacher for a few years. He also worked in trade. During the Civil War he was a lieutenant in the army of the Confederate States . Beeman was an MP in the Mississippi House of Representatives from 1883 to 1891 . At that time he was politically close to the Farmers' Alliance , of which he was a board member in Mississippi. He was also a delegate to several local meetings of this political movement. Beeman later became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1890 Beeman was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington , where he succeeded Chapman L. Anderson on March 4, 1891 . Since he refused to run again in 1892, he could only complete one term in Congress . After the end of his time in the House of Representatives, Beeman retired from politics and returned to his private business, which now also included agriculture. He died in July 1909.
