David R. Bowen (1973)

David Reece Bowen (born October 21, 1932 in Houston , Mississippi ) is an American politician . Between 1973 and 1983 he represented the second constituency of the state of Mississippi in the US House of Representatives .

Career

David Bowen attended Cleveland High School in Mississippi until 1950 . He then studied until 1952 at the University of Missouri , then until 1954 at Harvard University and finally until 1956 at the University of Oxford in England . Between 1957 and 1958 he was a US Army soldier .

From 1958 to 1959, Bowen taught political science and history as an assistant professor at Mississippi College . Between 1959 and 1964 he continued this activity at Millsaps College . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . From 1966 to 1967 he was employed by the Federal Agency for Economic Development ( Office of Economic Opportunity ), from 1967 to 1968 he worked for the US Chamber of Commerce . From 1968 to 1972 he was the coordinator of the federal government and the state government of Mississippi ( Coordinator of Federal-State Programs ).

In 1972 Bowen was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he replaced Jamie L. Whitten on January 3, 1973 . Since he also won the following four congressional elections, he was able to complete a total of five legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1983 . In 1982 he decided not to run again. After serving in Congress, Bowen was a visiting speaker at Mississippi State University from 1985 to 1987 . Today he spends his old age in McLean ( Virginia ).
