Daniel R. McGehee

Daniel Rayford McGehee (born September 10, 1883 in Little Springs , Franklin County , Mississippi , † February 9, 1962 in Meadville , Mississippi) was an American politician . Between 1935 and 1947 he represented the seventh constituency of the state of Mississippi in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After primary school, Daniel McGehee attended Mississippi College in Clinton until 1903 . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Mississippi at Oxford and his admission as a lawyer in 1909, he began to work in Meadville in his new profession. But he was also active in banking and agriculture.

McGehee was a member of the Democratic Party . He served in the Mississippi Senate from 1924 to 1928 and again between 1932 and 1934 . In between he was a member of the State House of Representatives from 1928 to 1932 . In 1934, McGehee was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the seventh district of Mississippi , where he succeeded Lawrence R. Ellzey on January 3, 1935 . After he was confirmed in his mandate in the following five congressional elections, he was able to complete a total of six legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1947 . Between 1941 and 1947 he was chairman of the Committee on Claims , a committee that dealt with claims against the federal government.

For the 1946 election, McGehee was no longer nominated by his party for another term. He then withdrew from politics and went back to work as a lawyer. But he also continued to work in agriculture and banking.
