Charles Hudson Griffin (born May 9, 1926 in Utica , Hinds County , Mississippi , † September 10, 1989 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1968 and 1973 he represented the third constituency of the state of Mississippi in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Griffin was the great-great-grandson of Isaac Griffin , who served in the US House of Representatives for Pennsylvania between 1813 and 1816 . He was born on a farm near Utica and attended Utica High School and Hinds Junior College . His studies were interrupted by World War II, in which Griffin had participated as a soldier in the US Navy in the Pacific region since 1944 . After the war, Griffin finished his education with a degree from Mississippi State University , from which he graduated in 1949.

Politically, Griffin became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1949 and 1968 he was assistant to Congressman John Bell Williams . After his resignation because of his election to governor of Mississippi, Griffin won the necessary by-election in the third district of his state. Since he also won the following two regular congressional elections, he could remain in Congress between March 12, 1968 and January 3, 1973 . In 1972, Griffin renounced another candidacy. Between 1980 and 1989 he served as Secretary of State in the Mississippi Senate administration .
