Patrick Alan Nunnelee (born October 9, 1958 in Tupelo , Mississippi ; † February 6, 2015 there ) was an American politician . He represented the state of Mississippi in the US House of Representatives from 2011 until his death .

Career

Alan Nunnelee attended Clinton High School in his home state Mississippi until 1976 . He then studied at Mississippi State University until 1980 . He then worked for the insurance company American Funeral Assurance Co. , where he rose to the board as Vice President for Sales and Marketing. His father was the company's CEO at the time. Along with it, he founded the company Allied Funeral Associates Inc and Allied Funeral Associates Insurance Co . Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1995 and 2010 he was a member of the Mississippi Senate . There he was temporarily a member of the approval committee.

In the 2010 congressional elections , Nunnelee was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Mississippi , where he succeeded the previously defeated Democrat Travis Childers on January 3, 2011 . In Congress he was a member of the Grants Committee and three sub-committees. He was also a member of five Congressional Caucuses . In the 2012 congressional election , Nunnelee prevailed with 60:37 percent of the vote against the Democrat Brad Morris.

He had three children with his wife Tori.
