James G. Spencer

James Grafton Spencer (born September 13, 1844 in Port Gibson , Claiborne County , Mississippi , † February 22, 1926 there ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the sixth constituency of the state of Mississippi in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Spencer attended private schools and then Oakland College until 1861 . During the Civil War he was a soldier in the army of the Confederate States . After the war was over, he returned to Mississippi, where he worked in agriculture.

Spencer was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1892 and 1894 he was an MP in the Mississippi House of Representatives . In the congressional elections of 1894 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth district of Mississippi , where he succeeded Charles E. Hooker on March 4, 1895 . In Congress , James Spencer only served one term until March 3, 1897. After his tenure in the House of Representatives, Spencer worked in insurance and the real estate market. He no longer held any political office.
