William Haile (politician, 1797)
William Haile (* 1797 - March 7, 1837 in Woodville , Mississippi ) was an American politician . Between 1826 and 1828 he represented the first constituency of the state of Mississippi in the US House of Representatives .
Career
The exact date and place of birth of William Haile are unknown. Upon arriving in Mississippi, he settled in Woodville, Wilkinson County . Politically, he was a member of the wing of the Democratic Republican Party that later became the Democratic Party founded by Andrew Jackson . In 1826, Haile was a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives .
After the death of Congressman Christopher Rankin in 1826, Haile was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . He took up this mandate on July 10, 1826. He was confirmed in the regular elections of 1826. Two years later, in 1828, he was not re-elected. He then resigned prematurely on September 12 of that year from his post in Congress . In 1832, William Haile was a delegate at a conference to revise the Mississippi Constitution. He died in March 1837.
