Charles Wayne Dowdy (born July 27, 1943 in Fitzgerald , Georgia ) is an American politician . Between 1981 and 1989 he represented the fourth constituency of the state of Mississippi in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Wayne Dowdy attended the public schools of his home country, Gulfport High School and, by 1965, Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. After studying law at the Jackson School of Law and being admitted to the bar in 1969, Dowdy began to practice in his new profession in McComb . Between 1970 and 1974 he was the McComb city judge and from 1978 to 1981 he was the mayor of that place.

After the resignation of Republican Congressman Jon Hinson Dowdy was the candidate of the Democratic Party in the election became necessary in the fourth district of Mississippi in 1981 in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC selected. After he was confirmed in each of the three subsequent regular congressional elections, he could remain in Congress between July 7, 1981 and January 3, 1989 . There he was considered a progressive democrat. In 1988 Dowdy declined to run for the House of Representatives again. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate . He lost 45% to 54% of the vote to the Republican Trent Lott . In 1991 a planned candidacy for gubernatorial election failed in his party's primary elections.

Today Wayne Dowdy practices as a lawyer in Magnolia . His family owns a few radio stations in Mississippi and Louisiana . He has three children with his wife Susan.
