McComb is a city in the US state of Mississippi and is located in Pike County . The county seat Magnolia is south of McComb. The city has 13,337 inhabitants (as of 2000).
McComb was founded in 1872 and named after Colonel Henry Simpson McComb . During the 1960s, McComb was the site of race riots and racially motivated bombings against African Americans. On October 20, 1977, a charter plane crashed near McComb. Members of the band Lynyrd Skynyrd died : Ronnie Van Zant , Steve Gaines , his sister Cassie and manager Dean Kilpatrick.
