Jackie Butler (born March 10, 1985 in McComb , Mississippi ) is a retired American basketball player . He played for the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA , among others .

Career

Butler went to McComb High School and originally wanted to study at Mississippi State University from 2003 , but could not qualify academically. He then attended the "Prep School" Laurinburg Institute and the Coastal Christian Academy in Virginia Beach , Virginia. Although he then signed up for the University of Tennessee , he eventually renounced an academic career and signed up for the 2004 NBA draft directly .

However, in the 2004 draft , Butler was not selected by any NBA club. He came to the Minnesota Timberwolves training camp , but received no contract for the season. In the 2004/05 season he played for Great Lakes Storm in the minor league Continental Basketball Association (CBA) before he had three short appearances at the New York Knicks in the NBA from late February 2005. The Knicks took him after the season for the entire 2005/06 season under contract.

In July 2006, Butler signed a three-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs . In the 2006/07 season he won the NBA championship with the Spurs, but he only had eleven missions with an average of ten minutes.

On July 12, 2007, Butler was given over to the Houston Rockets by the Spurs along with Luis Scola . In return, Vasilios Spanoulis and a second-round draft pick were sent to the Spurs. On October 29, Butler was fired from the Rockets without completing a game for the club.
