Chapman L. Anderson

Chapman Levy Anderson (born March 15, 1845 in Macon , Noxubee County , Mississippi , †  April 27, 1924 in Kosciusko , Mississippi) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1887 and 1891 he represented the fourth constituency of the state of Mississippi in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Chapman Anderson attended public schools in Jackson and then the University of Mississippi at Oxford . During the Civil War he was a soldier in the army of the Confederate States . After the war, Anderson studied law. After being admitted to the bar in 1868, he began to work in his new profession in Kosciusko. In 1875 he also became mayor of this city. Politically, Anderson was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1879 and 1880 he was a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives .

In 1886, Anderson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth district of Mississippi . There he replaced Otho R. Singleton on March 4, 1887 . After a re-election in 1888, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1891 . In 1890 he unsuccessfully applied for another nomination by his party. After his tenure in Congress ended, Anderson was a federal attorney for the northern borough of Mississippi from 1896 to 1897 . Otherwise he worked again as a lawyer. Anderson died in April 1924 and was buried in Kosciusko.
