Steven McCarthy Palazzo (born February 21, 1970 in Gulfport , Mississippi ) is an American politician . Since 2011 he has represented the state of Mississippi in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Steven Palazzo attended Saint Johns High School in Gulfport and then studied until 1996 at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg . Between 1988 and 1996 he was a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve . He was used in the Second Gulf War. He has been a member of his state's National Guard since 2007. Otherwise he worked as a sworn accountant. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 2007 and 2010 he was a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives . There he was a member of several committees, including the Banking Committee and the Working Committee.

In the 2010 congressional election , Palazzo in the fourth constituency of Mississippi was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded the previously defeated Democrat Gene Taylor on January 3, 2011 . There he is or was a member of the Armed Forces Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee and five sub-committees.

In the 2012 congressional elections , Palazzo prevailed with 64:29 percent of the vote against the Democrat Matthew Moore. After being re-elected in 2014, he was able to take up another two-year term as Congressman on January 3, 2015. Re-elected in 2016, he will also serve in the 115th Congress of the United States , which will meet on January 3, 2017 . His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018.
