The city of Houston (with the municipal status " City ") is next to Okolona one of two administrative centers of Chickasaw County in the north of the US state Mississippi . In 2010 , Houston had 3,623 residents.

The city is named after the Virginia- born Governor of Tennessee and Texas , Sam Houston .

Houston is located at 33 ° 53'53 "north latitude and 89 ° 00'06" west longitude and extends over 19.7 km². Not far from the city, the Yalobusha River is one of the two headwaters of the Yazoo River , a left tributary of the Mississippi .

Neighboring towns to Houston are New Houlka (11.8 miles north), Van Vleet ( 11.7 miles northeast), Trebloc (11.8 miles east-southeast), Woodland (14.7 km southwest), and Vardaman (16.8 miles west-southwest ).
