The Yalobusha River is part of the Mississippi catchment area .
It rises northwest of the city of Houston in Chickasaw County in the northeast of the US state Mississippi . It flows through the counties of Calhoun and Grenada in a south-westerly direction before it unites in the city of Greenwood in Leflore County with the Tallahatchie River to form the Yazoo River .
Most of its run through County Calhoun has been straightened and canalized. This part of the river is also known as the Yalobusha River Canal . In neighboring Grenada County, the river was dammed up to Grenada Lake by a dam built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers . The largest tributary, the Skuna River, flows into this .
