Brandon is a city in Rankin County in the US state of Mississippi and also the county seat of the county. The city is located about 15 kilometers east of the capital Jackson and belongs to the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area .

At the 2010 census , Brandon had a population of 21,705. In 2014 there were already 23,156 inhabitants, more than 76% white and around 18% black. Overall, Brandon recorded a population growth of 40.9% from 2000 to 2014. This made Brandon (as of 2010) the second largest city in Rankin County and the nineteenth largest in Mississippi. Brandon covers an area of ​​26 square miles , or about 67.34 square kilometers. 95% of the population lives in an urban area.
