Youth and club career

Mapp began his active football career at Northwest Rankin High School in Flowood , Mississippi. He then went to the IMG Soccer Academy , where he graduated in 2001 and was first accepted as a Project 40 player. At the MLS SuperDraft 2002 he moved to DC United as the fourth pick in the first round , but only played a total of 28 minutes in three appearances in his first professional season. When he made his professional debut on July 24, 2002, Mapp was the fifth youngest player in Major League Soccer history to make such an appearance.

In the 2003 season , Mapp was acquired by Chicago Fire in exchange for Dema Kowalenko . At the club from Bridgeview , Illinois , Mapp came to regular appearances in the current season and was able to complete 21 games at the end of the season. Mapp was also able to celebrate great success this season when he and the team were awarded the MLS Supporters' Shield and previously also won the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup .

In the following season he was in a total of 24 championship games on the field, scored three goals and gave four assists. He was sidelined for the remaining six weeks of the season due to a right knee injury. Mapp was on August 23, 2005 in the MLS Selection Team at the Trofeo Santiago Bernabéu game against Real Madrid ; the game was lost 5-0 to the Spaniards. After his decisive goal in the championship game on September 4th against LA Galaxy , Mapp was honored as MLS Player of the Week and his goal as Goal of the Week . He was also one of the finalists for the MLS Fair Play Award 2005 . In the 2006 season he won the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup with the Men in Red for the second time in his career.

Shortly after the end of the season, he was voted into the MLS Best XI . For the 2007 season , Mapp was in only 13 championship games in use, because he was due to a severe sprain of the right ankle, which he suffered in a league game against the Kansas City Wizards , for a long time. In 2008 Mapp found its way back to its old form and, like two years earlier, had 30 games played and had a record of two goals and eight assists. He was used for Chicago Fire in a total of 174 league games, scored 14 goals and gave 36 assists.

From summer 2010 Mapp was in action for Philadelphia Union in the MLS. On November 23, 2011, his move to Montreal Impact for the 2012 season was confirmed. In his first season he scored two goals in 27 games for the Canadians, and in the 2013 season he also scored two more goals in 27 games. In the 2014 season it was used 23 times. In the 2015 season , Mapp lost his regular place at Impact and only played five times.

At the end of 2015, Mapp's contract with Montreal Impact expired, making him a free agent in accordance with the recently amended rules of the MLS . He signed a new contract with league rivals Sporting Kansas City , making Mapp the first MLS free agent to sign a new contract.
